2014 Alumni CLE Series: Immigration Consequences of Criminal Activity
Start Date: 1/16/2014Start Time: 4:00 PM
End Date: 1/16/2014End Time: 6:00 PM

Event Description
Panelists will focus on the basic aspects of what criminal activity can lead to immigration consequences. This is especially pertinent given the Supreme Court opinion in Padilla v. Kentucky, which states that criminal counsel must properly advise their clients as to the immigration consequences of a guilty plea. The panel will discuss the requirements of basic relief in Immigration Court proceedings. Additionally, the panel will discuss how to determine whether a crime is one involving moral turpitude and/or an aggravated felony by reviewing recent Supreme Court cases.
