"Shari'a and Halakha in America"

Event Description
Is religious law a threat to American democracy? Is American democracy a threat to religious law? This two-day conference will explore the challenges faced by—and presented by—the Islamic and Jewish legal systems (shari’a and halakha) in America today. Speakers from the two traditions will also discuss what they can learn from one another’s experience. The conference is free and open to the public and is sponsored by IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, with support from the Jack Miller Center, and the Jewish-Muslim Initiative and the Institute for the Humanities at University of Illinois at Chicago. IIT Chicago-Kent is the venue for Monday, April 15; UIC is the venue for Tuesday, April 16, at the Institute for the Humanities, Stevenson Hall Lower Level, 701 South Morgan Street, Chicago. Visit the conference web page for a full agenda and details.
